IT Support for Surveyors
Reliable IT for surveyors — field data-capture kit, huge point-cloud and drawing files, mapping and CAD software, and tested backups of every survey.
From a day on site to a drawing the client can trust
A survey crew spends a morning on a site in Croydon walking a boundary with a GNSS rover and a total station, then scanning a building elevation with a laser scanner. By mid-afternoon that work is a controller full of coordinates and a scan file measured in gigabytes. None of it earns anything until it lands safely back at the office, is processed into a drawing, and reaches the client. The IT underneath that chain is what turns a day in the field into a deliverable.
We provide IT support built around how surveying practices actually work — from the kit outdoors to the workstation that renders the final plan.
What we look after
- Field data-capture devices — total stations, GNSS/GPS rovers, data collectors and controllers, and laser scanners, plus the reliable transfer of their readings back to the office
- Large survey and drawing files — point clouds, scan registrations and photogrammetry that run to many gigabytes, on storage and networks sized for them
- Mapping and CAD software — LSS, N4CE, Leica Cyclone, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS, plus Ordnance Survey mapping data
- Processing workstations — machines specified with the CPU, GPU, RAM and fast storage that point-cloud registration and modelling demand, not generic office PCs
- Reliable backups — tested, versioned copies so a survey can’t disappear between the field and the final drawing
The pressures specific to your work
A survey is a legal record of measurement. A wrong coordinate, a corrupted control file or a scan lost before it is processed doesn’t just cost time — it can put a boundary, a setting-out or a party-wall position in question. Data integrity matters here more than almost anywhere: the numbers on the drawing have to be exactly what the instrument recorded.
Then there is the volume. A single laser-scan job can fill a drive on its own, so storage, transfer and backup all have to keep pace with the kit. As a RICS-regulated practice you also carry duties around client confidentiality and record retention — surveys must be kept, findable and protected for years after the job closes. Sound backup and continuity and cyber security aren’t extras here; they protect the practice’s core asset, which is its data.
How we help
We work as your outsourced IT team — managed IT support that keeps workstations, servers, licences and storage healthy, plus quick help when something breaks. Most issues we fix remotely; when a scanner won’t talk to a workstation, a controller needs configuring or the office network needs hands on it, we come to you across South London, Croydon and Surrey. All support is delivered at your office or online — there is no counter to visit.
Who this is for
Land, measured-building, topographical and geomatics surveyors — sole practitioners or a small office — who capture data in the field and process it into drawings the client relies on. If your survey data is your livelihood, we keep it moving, backed up and safe.
Frequently asked questions
Can you support survey and CAD software like LSS, N4CE, Cyclone and AutoCAD?
Yes — we look after the mapping and CAD tools surveyors work in, including LSS, N4CE, Leica Cyclone, Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD Civil 3D, plus the licences, plug-ins and Ordnance Survey mapping data behind them.
How do you handle the large point-cloud and scan files our surveys produce?
We size storage, networks and backups around multi-gigabyte scans and point clouds, and we keep the data-transfer path off your controllers and scanners reliable so nothing is lost between the field and the finished drawing.
