Setting up devices by hand doesn’t scale

Building a new laptop by hand takes hours — installing Windows, adding apps one by one, joining the network, applying settings, turning on encryption, then hoping the next one matches. When you’re onboarding a few starters a month, or replacing an ageing fleet, that manual work becomes a bottleneck. Machines go out inconsistent, some miss a security setting, and the person waiting to start loses a day.

Device Setup & Deployment replaces that with a repeatable, standardised build. We define your ideal device once — apps, policies, security and all — then use Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot to apply it automatically to every machine. New starters sit down to a device that’s already configured, secured and ready to work.

What we set up

  • A standardised build — your agreed apps, settings and branding, defined once and applied to every device the same way
  • Windows Autopilot enrolment — new machines register to your tenant so they self-configure on first sign-in, straight from the box
  • Intune device management — central control of Windows and Apple devices, so policy and software changes reach the whole fleet remotely
  • App deployment — Microsoft 365, line-of-business software and browser tools pushed automatically, no manual installs
  • Security baselines — BitLocker or FileVault encryption, screen locks, firewall and update policies enforced from day one
  • Compliance policies — devices checked against your rules before they’re allowed near company data
  • New-starter onboarding at scale — a consistent, hands-off process whether it’s one laptop or fifty

Who it’s for

Growing businesses that hire in waves and can’t afford to lose a day setting up each new device — professional services firms, agencies, clinics and finance teams across South London, Croydon and Surrey. It suits any office standardising a mixed, inherited set of laptops into one managed fleet, and it works just as well for home-workers and hybrid staff, whose devices are enrolled and secured remotely without ever coming into an office. If setting up machines currently falls to whoever’s least busy, this takes it off their plate for good.

How it works

  1. Define the standard — we agree your build: which apps, which settings, which security baseline, and how devices should be named and grouped
  2. Configure Intune and Autopilot — we set up the profiles, policies and app packages in your Microsoft 365 tenant
  3. Register your devices — new machines are added to Autopilot (often by the supplier); existing ones are enrolled into Intune
  4. Zero-touch rollout — the user signs in, the device configures itself, and they start working — no engineer needed on site
  5. Ongoing management — updates, new apps and policy changes are pushed centrally, so the fleet stays consistent as it grows

Problems we commonly fix

  • New starters waiting days for a laptop because each one is built by hand
  • Inconsistent devices where some miss encryption, updates or a key app
  • No central way to push a software or security change across the fleet
  • Lost or stolen laptops that can’t be remotely wiped or locked
  • A jumble of personal and company devices with no enforced standard
  • Old machines retired without being wiped and unenrolled properly

This service is the setup-and-deployment side of our wider business device support. It pairs naturally with Microsoft 365 setup for the accounts and licensing behind it, and with cyber security so the baseline you deploy actually holds. For day-to-day cover once devices are live, most clients fold it into managed IT support.

Frequently asked questions

What is zero-touch deployment with Autopilot?

Autopilot ships a new device straight from the supplier to your staff member. When they sign in with their work account, it configures itself automatically — apps, settings, security and encryption all applied from Intune, with no engineer touching the machine.

How long does it take to onboard a new starter's device this way?

Once the build is defined, a new laptop typically self-configures in under an hour of unattended setup. The person signs in, waits while it applies your standard, and starts working — no image to load, no software to install by hand.

Can you standardise devices we already own?

Yes. We enrol existing Windows and Apple devices into Intune and bring them up to your standard build — the same apps, policies and security baseline as new machines — so your whole fleet is consistent and managed.

Do we need Microsoft 365 to use Intune and Autopilot?

You need Microsoft 365 licences that include Intune (most Business Premium and Enterprise plans do). If you're not sure what you have, we'll check your licensing and tell you honestly what's needed before any work starts.
