Moving office without losing days of work

An office move is one of the few times almost everything in your IT can break at once. The internet gets disconnected at the old site, the servers and phones come off the wall, cables get coiled into boxes, and a room full of people expect to sit down and work the moment the desks arrive. Get the sequencing wrong and you lose days — staff sitting idle, customers unable to reach you, and a scramble to work out why nothing connects.

Most of that risk is avoidable with planning. The problem is that the riskiest parts — ordering a new internet line, sorting cabling, and moving a server safely — have long lead times and no room for guesswork. Office IT relocation is about managing those moving parts so the technology is ready before your people arrive, not after.

What we handle

  • Pre-move IT audit — a full inventory of what you have: internet lines, servers, network kit, phones, printers, desk devices and who depends on what
  • New-site cabling & network — data points at every desk, a tidy comms cabinet, switches, firewall and business Wi-Fi set up and labelled
  • Broadband & leased-line ordering — we check line availability at the new address and order early, because circuits are the slowest thing to arrange
  • Server & comms relocation — safely powering down, transporting and recommissioning servers, NAS units and network hardware
  • Phone & connectivity move — VoIP and internet cutover planned so calls and email keep flowing
  • Day-one testing — every desk, login, printer, shared drive and connection checked before your team walks in

Who it’s for

Small and mid-sized businesses across Streatham, South London, Croydon and Surrey moving to a new or additional office — professional services firms, agencies, clinics, charities and trades with a fixed base. It also suits growing teams splitting into a second site, or a business fitting out an empty unit that needs cabling and a network from scratch. If some of your people work from home, we make sure remote access to files and systems still works from the new setup on day one.

How a relocation works

  1. Site survey & audit — we visit both sites, list every device and line, and check what the new building already has for cabling and connectivity
  2. Plan & order early — we confirm the internet line lead time, order the circuit, and book cabling so nothing waits on a slow supplier
  3. Prepare the new site — cabling, comms cabinet, switches, firewall and Wi-Fi installed and tested before moving day
  4. The move — usually out of hours or over a weekend: we power down cleanly, relocate servers and kit, then reconnect and configure
  5. Test & sign off — we check every desk, login, printer and connection, fix anything that misbehaves, and hand over a working office

Problems we commonly fix

  • The internet line isn’t live on day one — we order circuits early and arrange 4G/5G failover so you’re never dead in the water
  • Not enough desk points or a chaotic comms cabinet — we plan cabling around your actual desk layout, not guesswork
  • A server that won’t come back up after the move — we shut down and recommission properly, with a backup taken first
  • Printers, shared drives and logins broken at the new site — mapped, tested and working before anyone sits down
  • Wi-Fi dead spots in the new space — access points positioned and tuned for the real floor plan

Relocation sits alongside the rest of your IT. Many clients pair a move with a fresh network and Wi-Fi setup, tidy up their backup and continuity before the servers travel, and roll the new office into ongoing managed IT support. Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should we plan an office move?

Ideally 8–12 weeks. The long pole is almost always the internet line — a new leased line or fibre circuit can take 30–90 working days to install, so we order it early and build the rest of the plan around that date.

Can you move us over a weekend to avoid downtime?

Usually, yes. For smaller moves we shut down on Friday evening, relocate and reconnect over the weekend, then test everything before Monday. Larger moves with servers or a leased line may need a phased cutover, which we plan with you in advance.

What happens if the new broadband isn't live on moving day?

We plan for it. Where line lead times are tight we arrange a temporary 4G/5G failover connection so your team can work on day one, then switch to the permanent circuit once it's installed and tested.

Do you handle the cabling and network points at the new office?

Yes. We audit or specify the data cabling, patch the desks and comms cabinet, and set up the switches, Wi-Fi and firewall so every desk and device has a working, tidy connection.
